One hundred million people live in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As they work to make a living, they wrestle with a persistent paradox: Their home is rich in resources ¨C minerals, forest, land, and the mighty Congo River ¨C yet collectively they are still very poor. Lack of modern energy - compounded by demographic pressures, deforestation and conflict ¨C constrains economic growth and jobs. The Inga 3 Development Program lays the foundations for the sustainable development of additional hydropower at the Inga site on the Congo river and promises to bring not only energy but also skills and jobs, local development, better connectivity, a chance to add value to minerals and natural resource protection.
