TDLC Joins Hiroshima¡¯s Peace Memorial Ceremony

ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) attended the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima on August 6, 2025. Hiroshima City is a partner of TDLC¡¯s City Partnership Program (CPP).

Eighty years ago, the world¡¯s first atomic bomb devastated Hiroshima in an instant, claiming countless lives. Each year, the ceremony serves as a solemn reminder of that tragedy and as a powerful platform for the city- rebuilt from the ashes- to share the reality of the bombing and advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons.

For cities around the globe that have suffered catastrophic destruction from war or disaster, Hiroshima stands as both a symbol of peace and a model of urban recovery. TDLC has been working to share lessons from Hiroshima¡¯s remarkable reconstruction. In 2023, it co-hosted the international symposium ¡°From Recovery to Growth: Learning from Hiroshima¡¯s Experience ¨C Dialogue between Hiroshima, Ukraine, and other Eastern European and Central Asian Countries,¡± which brought together leaders from across these regions for a powerful dialogue that drew strong interest. TDLC also published a

Among the city¡¯s most moving symbols of resilience is the ¡°First Tram,¡± which began running again just three days after the bombing- a testament to the determination of its people.

This year, just ahead of the 80th anniversary ceremony, Hiroshima Electric Railway launched the new ¡°Ekimae Ohashi Line,¡± a groundbreaking project enabling trams to enter directly into JR Hiroshima Station¡¯s ticket gate level¡ªa first in Japan. The initiative is expected to improve access and attract more visitors to the city.

Hiroshima continues to evolve, carrying forward the memory of its past while building a hopeful future.
