The municipality of Camarones; in the province of Chubut; Argentina; is located within the Patagonia Azul Biosphere Reserve; recognized by UNESCO in 2015 for its extraordinary biodiversity and its importance for the reproduction and migration of birds and marine mammals. The Port of Camarones is the only maritime access point near the recently created (April 2025) Patagonia Azul Provincial Park and is key for local development and ecotourism. The PROBLUE program; a multi-donor trust fund administered by the World Bank; supports the sustainable development of marine and coastal resources; the reduction of marine pollution (including plastics); the protection of critical ecosystems; and the generation of green jobs. PROBLUE promotes the integration of nature; climate; and development into public policies and local management and has granted non-reimbursable funds for the development of diagnostics and plans to promote Camarones as a Blue Port. Proper waste management is essential to prevent marine pollution; protect ecosystems; and strengthen the local economy; especially considering the expected growth in fishing; tourism; and port activities in the area. It is in this context that the activities of this consultancy are framed.
