We actively engage with academia - universities, research centers, and academic experts - across World Bank Group (WBG) operations, policy dialogue, and knowledge work. This engagement is essential to:

  • Promote innovation, knowledge generation and sharing: Academic institutions provide research, evidence, and expertise that help inform WBG policies and knowledge work. In turn, the WBG shares its mission, priorities, insights from operations, and knowledge - fostering a two-way exchange of ideas.
  • Foster capacity building: The WBG has developed comprehensive digital learning platforms like the  to equip individuals with practical knowledge from WBG operations and expertise.

We provide a range of ways for academic institutions to access our knowledge and collaborate on shared areas of interest:

  • The Speakers Bureau: informs and engages the public - including students, professors, and educators - about our mission and efforts to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity on a livable planet.
  • Keynote speeches: Create a valuable forum for WBG senior leaders and development experts to connect and share insights with academic institutions.
  • Participation in consultations and high-level fora: Academic institutions can participate in expert meetings, country surveys, strategy consultations, and major fora such as the Spring and Annual Meetings.
  • Partnerships: We collaborate with academia to strengthen our flagship projects, conduct research, and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Civil Society Policy Forum: Provides a CSO-led platform to discuss and debate shared priorities with peers, WBG and International Monetary Fund experts, delegates, and other stakeholders.
