Alanna?Simpson is the World Bank Operations Manager for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, joining the position in July 2025 and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Ms. Simpson oversees the Bank¡¯s lending and advisory services portfolio in both countries.
Prior to this position, she was the Lead Disaster Risk Management Specialist for the Europe and Central Asia region where she provided operational and analytical leadership and management on disaster risk and crisis management across the region. She led high-profile and cross-sectoral analytics and operations following disasters and conflict in countries such as T¨¹rkiye, Ukraine, and Lebanon. ?She also served as leader of the Innovation Lab for the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), where she supported teams to identify and harness innovation, science, and engineering to overcome entrenched issues in disaster risk management.
Prior to joining the World Bank,?Alanna?worked for the Australian Government, where she led efforts to improve disaster risk assessment capability in East Asia and the Pacific. A New Zealand and Australian national, Dr. Simpson holds a PhD in Geoscience from the University of Queensland, a M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Otago and a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Auckland.
